Trillium Resort & Spa Wedding Venue
Your complete guide to planning a wedding at Trillium Resort and Spa in Port Sydney
Having photographed oodles of weddings at Trillium Resort over the years, I’m excited to share this guide and some of my favourite tips for planning your big day here!
When you book your wedding at Trillium, you get the entire resort for the whole weekend. It’s like a destination wedding, minus the flights. Imagine your wedding party arriving on Thursday afternoon to settle in and start organizing everything. As your guests begin to trickle in Friday evening, you can join the fun during your welcome festivities and bonfire on the beach.
And Saturday morning? Get ready for a delicious lodge buffet breakfast in the main dining room where everyone can mix and mingle. When I say buffet… I mean a serious spread - think bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes, waffles, and fresh fruit. Trust me, nobody goes hungry here!
After everyone fuels up at breakfast, your guests can kick back and enjoy some relaxing Trillium activities while you and your bridal party prepare for the day. Once the ceremony wraps up, it’s super convenient for your guests to mingle at cocktail hour or stroll back to their cottages for a touch-up.
For guests without a cottage, many couples opt to rent a local bus to get them to and from their hotel, which is just a short hop away. Good vibes going without any hassle!

Where to Get Ready
When it comes to getting ready the morning of your wedding, you’ve got some great options. The popular picks are the Rushing Water Cottage, Lakeview Cottages and the conference room above the main lobby. Each location has its own perks, but I definitely recommend the Rushing Water Cottage for you and your bridesmaids.
A Quick Overview Getting Ready Locations at Trillium:
Here’s a quick rundown of the best spots for getting ready at Trillium. I’ve ranked them based on two main factors… amenities and how well they accommodate wedding groups. Plus - let’s be honest - how great they are for photos!
Rushing Water Cottage
This is the easy-best choice! With plenty of space, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a cozy living room (with fireplace) and a kitchen - it’s perfect for you and your bridesmaids. The loads of natural light are a dream for your hair, makeup, and photo/video teams and it’s located well-away from guest cottages giving you plenty of privacy. With all that room and not one but two bathrooms, Rushing Water is a no-brainer for bride prep.
Lakeview Cottages
These classic, two-story mountain cabin-style cottages sit on a hill with wrap-around decks that overlook Devine Lake. They’re a solid option for the guys since they’re close to the main lodge and offer great views. Just a heads-up, in winter the hill can get a quite slippery in the snow.
One other option for the guys is the conference room above the main lobby. It has plenty of window light and its own bathroom. Since it’s located in the main lodge it’s super easy for the guys to find and let’s be honest, we need to keep it simple for them.
The main reason I steer couples away from the other standard cottages is size. While they’re spacious enough as guest cabins, they can feel cramped when you pack in bridesmaids, groomsmen, parents and wedding vendors all in one space. So for the best experience, stick with Rushing Water for the ladies and Lakeview for the guys.
Ceremony Locations
You have two primary locations for your ceremony - the front lawn as well as inside the main lodge. Regardless of the season, either option is available. There is also a less common location down on the beach. Which one should you choose?
The Lawn
This is by far the most popular choice as it's elevated and overlooks beautiful Devine Lake. The towering trees surrounding this location add to the authentic Muskoka wedding vibe. Even in winter, staff clear the snow from the lawn and set everything up just the same as they do in the summer. Add in some lightly falling snow flakes... winter wonderland wedding anyone?
Inside the Main Lodge
In the event of rain, or if you're having a winter wedding - the dining room in the main lodge can serve as your ceremony location. The large windows, rustic chandeliers and cozy fireplace provide a beautiful backdrop for you and your guests. While the outdoor lighting of the front lawn provides the most flattering lighting scenario, the dining room is a solid backup plan with those massive windows.
Reception and Dinner Setup
Sara and her team are fantastic! The wedding reception setups are always stunning, with a variety of table configurations to accommodate any size group.
One of my favorite things about weddings at Trillium? The food! The chef and the whole team are so talented and your guests will definitely thank you after every delicious bite.
Once dinner and speeches wrap up, you and your guests can relax in the lounge area just outside the dining room while the Trillium staff clears the tables and sets up the dance floor. The typical turnaround time is just 20-30 minutes - plenty of time for everyone to mingle and indulge in some sweet treats before returning to kick off the party!
Pro Tip: For your head table location, choose the front of the windows if you have a smaller wedding party. If you have a larger group sitting with you then the top of the stairs is the best option.
If you’re thinking about a sweetheart table, consider setting it up in front of the fireplace - it's cozy and adds a lovely touch and makes a great background for photos.
Planning a Trillium Wedding?
Quick Tip: That 20-30 minute break while staff are turning around the dining room is the perfect time for a cake cut and/or sneaking outside to grab some fun night photos (sparklers perhaps?). Trillium has a warm glow against the blue night sky with the towering silhouetted trees on either side. Many of my couples request that exact photo.
There's a very good reason Trillium Resort is on my Best Muskoka Wedding Venue list... it's beauty, food, staff and on-site accommodations. It's a mini-destination wedding getaway just a few hours north of the Toronto.
