Tangle Creek Wedding in Barrie
Kayla and Tyler's Tangle Creek wedding in Barrie, Ontario
Having lost several cases of golf balls at Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club over the years it had naturally left a sour taste in my mouth. I mean, does the grass really have to be that tall and thick? Are all these rolling hills and blind tee shots really necessary? My 3 digit scorecard and I swore we'd never be back. That was until Kayla and Tyler reached out to me about shooting their wedding.
When I heard the words, "we're getting married at Tangle Creek in Barrie" I had one of those 1970 horror flick zoom-in-zoom-out visions with loud organ music dubbed over. My nemesis. However, my spidey-sense quickly reminded me how much I'd love those rolling hills and swaying tall grass when I have the bride and groom along with me. Tangle Creek has turned into one of my favourite wedding venues in Barrie now.
My awesome second shooter Kindsey was along for the ride and when we arrived at the Hampton Inn in Barrie for prep photos Kayla had thought of everything. They each had over-sized suites and loads of finger-food & drinks for their wedding posse. On a wedding day, time is precious so something as simple as going out for food and ordering meals in is a big ole time suck. With drinks and finger food/snacks on hand everyone's able to continue their prep while picking away at the food trays. I still have to hit Kayla up for the recipe for those ridiculously awesome chocolate chip cookies.
Kayla and Tyler's Tangle Creek wedding ceremony was gorgeous set against the garden gazebo backdrop with blue skies and beautiful harp and guitar music in the background. My spidey-sense had served me well, Tangle boastfully puffed out their chest that day with wonderfully manicured lawns and classy reception hall. Kindsey and I had a blast goofing around with the bridal party while we wandered all over the grounds for photos.
But enough of my blabbin', let's hear Kayla and Tyler's story in their own words below...
HOW DID THEY MEET:
Kayla: We met in university when we were assigned to the same laboratory work group. Not all that exciting, but turned out to be the best group assignment!Tyler: We met in second year university in a biology class. Kayla was not a fan of my large unkempt beard and sweat pants, but we still became friends. Four years later when I was in medical school we reconnected and began to date.
WHAT DO THEY REMEMBER MOST ABOUT THEIR FIRST DATE:
Kayla: We were on a walk through a forest to feed birds in late November. Like something out of a fairy tale, it started lightly snowing and the sun was shining just perfectly as each little snow flake fell onto the leaves. It was quite beautiful and romantic!
Tyler: We went to feed birds in a park near my home, and the thing I remember most is that it was very cold and my fingers and toes were going numb.
THE PROPOSAL, HOW DID IT GO DOWN:
Kayla: First thing in the morning in our living room. I was wearing sweats, no make-up and totally not expecting a proposal! It was a big surprise even though we had talked about it!
Tyler: I had had the ring for about 2 months by this point, and I kept putting it off. Eventually I decided on a Thursday morning in August that this was going to be the day. I took the ring out of the box I had been hiding, and after sitting on the couch for awhile with Kayla, I pulled out the ring and asked Kayla to marry me.
ONE THING THEY LOVE ABOUT ONE ANOTHER:
Kayla: Tyler is so compassionate and understanding. I super love this about him!
Tyler: Her willingness to put up with my messiness around the house and support me when things get tough.
WHAT DID THEY LOVE MOST ABOUT THEIR WEDDING?
Kayla: The "I do's" :)
Tyler: The feeling that I got when I saw Kayla for the first time walking down the aisle when I was up at the gazebo with the officiant.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS FROM THEIR DAY?
Kayla: When a bee got stuck in the tulle of my dress and managed to stay there the whole ceremony! Of course, the wonderfully kind and caring words of our friends and family during the speeches. And, the awkward moment when Tyler finally got the garter off my leg.. with no hands!
Tyler: Seeing Kayla for the first time walking down the aisle.
WHAT MADE THEM CHOOSE TANGLE CREEK AS THEIR WEDDING VENUE?
We chose Tangle Creek because it had a great location, offered all the services we needed in one place (decorations, catering, rehearsal dinner, reception, a place for on site photography, and on site ceremony location). It was nice to coordinate everything with one place. Our guests were also grateful that they didn't have to travel between the ceremony and reception. Plus, it's got beautiful picturesque views!
WEDDING TIP FOR FUTURE BRIDES FROM KAYLA:
Plan for lots of buffer time!!! Things always take longer than expected and will be out of your control. If you do end up behind schedule, don't fret! It's your day and they can't go on without you :)
WEDDING TIP FOR FUTURE GROOMS FROM TYLER:
Don't procrastinate on wedding tasks ("Oh I will do this tomorrow"), eventually there are no more "tomorrows" to rely on.
