Wedding advice comes from everywhere when you're engaged, remember to "do you"
This is the first in a new series I'm calling "QTs" or Quick Tips for the less hip. Hip's still hip right?! I'm starting with this one because I think it's an over-arching wedding planning principle I stress to all of my couples... "Do You". Take everyone's input and then decide what's best for you.
With each sit down meeting with my bride and groom I'm brought into their planning process, dreams, wants, don't-wants and f*k-that-would-be-awesomes. As a creative I love all the different ideas and personal touches that people from all different walks of life bring into their wedding plans. And like a creative it gets my nerdy photog juices pumping and we start turning those ideas into real-worldedness goals while I throw in some ideas of my own.You'll be getting all sorts of ideas, suggestions, comments and strategies from everyone from your parents and friends to your vendors and wedding venue itself. Even though it's your wedding day, your family and close friends love you and naturally feel somewhat invested in making it an incredible day as well.
At the same time, as your photographer I'll be offering my experience in having been to countless weddings as will your other vendors such as your DJ, coordinator etc. We're all here to offer advice to make sure the day exceeds your every expectation.
Having said all that - it's ultimately your wedding day. It's a HUGE moment in your lives. Take everyone's input, consider it and then make the best decision for you. Your wedding day goes by so fast - cliche or not - it's true. Don't spend a single moment on your day doing something you're not 100% excited about! "Do You".
In short: Wedding planning can be daunting, remember to DO YOU.
Start the process early in your engagement
Write down your dream day, location and style
Take input from everyone ie. family, friends, vendors, Google
Organize it all in writing with your hubby over a bottle of wine
Decide what's really you and run with it!
