Destination Wedding Planning Tips to Get Started

Destination wedding packages, hotels, travel arrangements etc... let's narrow down the key steps to get your planning started

Planning a destination wedding is an exciting experience, however it also involves careful planning. Many times couples have not even seen their destination wedding venue before they arrive - a scary proposition!  Here are some tips to help you dial down the stress of planning a wedding far from home...

1. Location, location, location

Consider your personal preferences, budget, and the number of guests you'll be inviting when choosing a location. Do you want a beach wedding, a Rocky Mountain wedding, or maybe something with a Mama Mia vibe? Do you want a tropical destination or a more cultural setting? Take the time to research different locations and decide on the one that best fits your vision.

2. Plan ahead

Destination weddings often require more advanced planning than traditional weddings, so it's important to start planning as early as possible. This will give you plenty of time to book specific resorts/hotels, outside vendors, as well as travel arrangements.

3. Logistics

When planning a destination wedding, you'll need to consider logistics such as transportation, accommodation, and activities for your guests. Make sure to research and book these items in advance to ensure that your guests have a smooth and enjoyable experience.

4. Use a great travel agent

A great travel agent who specializes in destination weddings will be a valuable asset when it comes to planning. They not only help you find and secure resorts/hotels that offer specific destination wedding packages, but they can guide you to narrowing down locations that best suit you and your guests.Organizing all those rooms and keeping on top of travel plans for everyone is not something you should be stressing over. Use a reputable travel agent who has the resources and track record to get the job done.

5. Keep everyone in the know

It's important to keep your guests informed and make sure they have all the information they need to plan their trip. This can include details on travel arrangements, accommodation, and any activities you have planned.  Your travel agent will do most of the heavy lifting, but having something like a wedding website created with all of the up to date wedding and travel info will be a great resource for you and your guests.

I've traveled to and photographed many destination weddings over the years - they're an amazing combination of love and scenery mixed in with a vacation away with your closest family and friends.
